These days

Where to start? Oh these boys really do keep me busy! Between Gavin's wild on the go personality, and Austin's new inability to sleep (aka standing in bed), I'm exhausted!

Gavin is so so funny these days. His little personality is just so funny, and he is learning how to "stretch the truth" about things. Yes, that's my nice way of saying lying, but can kids lie at this age??? UM YES! Gavin will tell me "Please go pick up baby and feed him, he is fussy" when in fact baby is not fussy at all, but playing with Gavins toys. Or he will tell me that baby needs a nap because baby is "so tired" when in reality, Gavin just wants alone time with momma! Oh Gavie. He is also so dramatic. He tells me often that "Davin is SO tired from all that hard work sleeping" Seriosuly kid? I would KILL to take a nap! He is also so funny these days. He will say something funny, and we will laugh and then he grins ear to ear bc he knows he is funny...and then he will say it over and over. He calls his dad "Derwick" all the time, its so funny. The other morning, "Hey Derwick, here is your smoothie, don't forget to take it to work, OK?" Last night while at Ma's house we asked him if he wanted to spend the night there...he responded, "Yes, Davin wants to sleep here because Davin LIVES here!" Of course he got a ton of laughs for that too. I can't think of any more bc I am so tired. Oh, yes and he spends the night at Ma and Papa's house at least once a week....LOVES to do this, and we love it too!

Oh Austin. Getting teeth is hard, so he has been not sleeping well. Oh, and he can now stand in his crib....but can't get down! So he stands, and then sobs and sobs because he is "stuck." We decided that he has to learn to get down on his own, as I am not going in there every time he gets up! So last night the poor guy was standing in his crib for 45min crying! So so sad, but eventually he got down, and went back to sleep. Oh my. Oh, and he is also very aware of me leaving the room now. He will whine and cry when he sees me leave...and then smile when I come back. Stanger anxiety? Check! So far two times a different stranger has come up to tell him how cute he is, and he gets SHY and cuddles into my neck...and then it takes some warming up to get a smile! Really? At 6 months? Man, I thought I had longer on that one! He is a WILD man, and crawling all over the house. He will hear where we are and come tearing down the hall to find us. Time to baby proof. We never really did with Gavin, we just made sure that if there was stuff he could not have, we put up high. As for Austin, he seems like he will be different...and get into more! He is eating 100% table food, and hates us trying to spoon anything in his mouth. Has has almost everything under the sun, including peanut butter. So much for rules with food! I am proud that he has not had honey yet, but I am sure that will be soon, esp since G eats honey a lot.

Austin 6 mo well check

Today baby A had his 6 month well visit with Dr. C. Everything went great, minus the poor little lip curl and terrified scream after the shots;)

Baby A is doing great, and very happy and healthy. She described him as an "Early motor skill" baby, as he was twisting in my arms trying to get out to crawl around. She said that she sees him being an early walker, since he is already on the move. I already knew this!

Stats:
Weight-17lbs (35%)
Height-28inches (75%)
Head Circ-44cm (60%)

Of course we talked about how he has already reached is 6mo milestones, and more. Again, she used the "Early Motor Skill" phrase again;)

The next topic was his sleep. He is doing well, only getting up once at 3 or 4 and then back to sleep. We have tried to let him cray at this time, but he never gives in, and will just cry until we all get up. She explained that this time of night is one of the hardest to get babies to train...as they have already been asleep for 6 or 7 hours, so the sleep is lighter at this time...and most babies will just outgrow this time of waking up. We will see....it took G a LONG time to outgrow this one!

He did not like his shots one bit...but his paci helped him calm down.

We are so happy to have such healthy boys!!!

Gavin 3 yr well check

Today Gav had his 3yr check up with "Dr. Topeland" (Dr. Copeland) :) Gav was actually very excited to go to the doctor, and was looking forward to it! We read lots about going to the doctor in CG and Winnie the Pooh, so Gav gets excited about getting the sucker after his shot.

Both boys had appt at same time, so it was easier, and harder! Getting them both undressed and weighed/measured was a task, but they were very good.

Here are stats:
Weight-31lbs (40%)
Height-40inches (80%)
BMI-Not even on charts ;)
Blood Pressure-95/57

This was the first time a BP was taken, and he was SO excited! That's what happens in WTP book, and Gavin always asks for it.

Gavin told Dr. C about everything under the sun, and would not stop talking. He also asked her if she was going to give him the shot...about 10 times.

Dr. C said that all is great with Gav. She said he looks very healthy, and is right on track with all his milestones. She said that its obvious that his speech is really great, as he did not stop talking her ear off, and she said she could understand all if it. I asked about him always talking in third person, and she said it was completely fine, that its normal and some kids do it until they are 4.

Finally the nurse came in and gave A his shots, while G watched. Austin cried, and Gavin said "Davin wont cry when he gets a shot!!!" so he was next! He needed a Hep A shot, and he picked his arm and stuck it out. When she inserted the needle, he looked at me and started to cry, and said he "Does not LIKE THE SHOTS ANYMORE!!!!" He cried for about 10 more seconds until she gave him a box of suckers to choose from...instantly happy again!

He needs the next Hep A shot in 6mo, then he is all caught up to date.

Next appt in a YEAR!

Uncle Pat & G

Gav sure is in love with his Uncle Pat. Maybe because they are both so wild and crazy? G loved that Uncle Pat would throw him around and play on the playground...these two were meant to be together;)

Noah's Visit

We had SO much frun with Uncle Pat & Noah in town! We went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Ma's pool, Children's Museum, parks, and the toy store....just to name a few! We sure were very busy all week long, and had a lot of fun. Little Noah is a big ball of energy, so he fit in very well with my two crazies;) Thank you Uncle Pat & Noah for coming to stay for the week. We can't wait until you come again next year!

Growing Up

Austin now has two bottom teeth and can pull to a standing position all by himself! He has not figured out how to get down yet, so he will either fall down or cry for help;) He is WILD, and will now crawl throughout the house to find us. We used to be able to leave him in one room, and he would just explore that room....not anymore! He now knows that there is an entire house to explore:)

Gone are the days of just being able to hold him while we are out! He wants DOWN and to EXPLORE! He has now been ALL over the playground baby area (dirty knees!) and the baby area at the children's museum...YUCK, but he loves it. I still have to be right on top of him since he eats everything, but he has so much fun:)

He is MAJORLY teething. His teeth are causing some pain, and its the worst after dinner. He just cries unless he has something IN his mouth that he is chewing on. No fevers or any other of the "teething" symptoms, just pain and always needing something in his mouth!

We give him lots of food to chew on, raw veggies, and he loves the rice sticks. He will devour 2 of them in a few minutes! He also loves spaghetti noodles, and prefers them very long so that he can pick them up and eat them!

Yesterday I gave him an entire orange (peeled) while walking through the store, and when I looked down it was half gone. No idea how, but he swallows big stuff!

Baby Austie is growing up so fast!

Nap

Today Gavin's nap was super short. He came out of his room and told me he was up. I told him no he wasn't, and he said OK. I continued to nurse baby and Gavin sat down on the ground. I ignored him and then looked over and he was passed out on the ground. Slept this way for 20 more minutes. Hmm.

First Stand & First Tooth!

Today we felt baby Austin's first tooth, AND he stood up for the first time!

We have been SUPER busy with Uncle Pat and Noah here for the week...lots of fun stuff going on. I will be sure to put up pics soon:)

{Gavin 3 Years}

Dear Gavin,

Today my baby boy turns three. Still in shock that it has been 36 months since you were placed in my arms...seems like just yesterday sometimes:)

We celebrated with all your friends and family all week long, and had a ton of fun. We wish your Cincinnati family was not so far away:(

You are as busy as ever these days, and man, oh man you have an opinion! You know what you want when you want it! You do not hesitate to tell us what you are thinking, that's for sure!

You are still sleeping and eating well...sometimes your naps have been only an hour, but you still wake up happy. Love to be outdoors and love to cook. We still read a million books a day.

You love everyone around you, but Ma holds a special place in your heart. You could care less about ANYthing if she is near, and you will drop ANYthing to be with her! You have the most fun at her house, and love to go over there for sleepovers. You really love your Ma!

Your BFF's continue to be Kaleb, KK, Nathan, and a new friend Gordon.

We continuously work on sharing, and you have good sharing days and bad sharing days. The biggest test is when Noah will come! We will see if you can share everything all day every day for a week!

We love you to pieces Gavie, and thank God each and every day you are here.

Love,
Momma

Monterey Bay

Today we headed down to Monterey Bay to go to the aquarium and beach with Cincinnati Ma and Papa. It was a beautiful day, and we all had a ton of fun. We ended up getting a season pass to the aquarium, so we can go more often...and we always get to bring guests, so we are super excited about that.

We had a delicious lunch at The Fish Hopper, and then went and played in the sand and ocean. It was a very nice and sunny day.

After lunch, we headed back to the aquarium, and visited the jelly fish and seahorses:)

We ended the day with a nice and quiet ride home with both boys sleeping/watching Happy Feet. Thanks for the fun day Ma and Papa!

Happy 3rd Birthday Gavin!

This afternoon was Gavin's 3rd Birthday Party! We had our family and very close friends over for a fun Curious George party:) All the kids had a blast, and loved the bounce house and cake of course. Of course daddy had a keg of beer for the adults, so we could have fun as well. There were TONS of babies there too. Gavin said that when he was blowing out his candles he wished for "a present" and his wish came true!

Kaleb was Gavin's first friend to arrive, and when he handed Gavin his present, Gavin said "Oh thanks Tayub (Keleb) but Davin already HAS a present!" It was super cute. I guess he thinks one present is enough...perfect for us!

Thank you to everyone for coming to help us celebrate! We are so lucky to have such a happy and healthy THREE year old:)
