Gavin at the Dentist

Gavin went to see Dr. Rabitz for the very first time today, and it was a really great trip to the dentist! First, when we walked in, the entire office and waiting room is geared towards children, and it is a tree house theme...with TONS of toys and things to look at. Once we went back to see the dentist, Gavin walked back, and climbed up on the chair like he had been there before! He immediately lifted up his shirt, as he thought the dentist wanted to listen to his heart and stomach...Guess he has been to the Dr a lot lately! Then we met with Dr. Rabitz, and he was wonderful. So sweet, and very good with Gavin. He explained everything to me, and he is a very knowledgeable dentist...He obviously did his homework, and looked at Gavin's chart to see that I am a nurse...as he seemed like he was expecting my questions about fluoride...He recommends giving Gav a fluoride drop since its not in our water...We don't use fluoride toothpaste for G as he does not spit it out yet. I have done a TON of research about ingested fluoride and I am still on the fence about if I want G to have it...but Dr. R had some good knowledge and facts about why it IS good for him....still have to think about it.

Then he examined Gavin's teeth, and Gavin sat completely still and let him. He opened, shut, and smiled for the dentist. He was so good!!! I was in shock, as no one has even really tried to look that thoroughly at his teeth before!

Then the hygienist put some headphones on G so he could see the cartoon playing right above him....Gavin was SOLD! Cartoons (He's does not get much of these and you can sure tell!) kept Gavin busy for the next 30 minutes...and she cleaned his teeth, each one, and even squirt water and suctioned his mouth....he did exactly as she said...Ma and I were just laughing so much!!! I guess I never dreamed it would be that easy to take a 2 yr old to the dentist!!!

Dr. Rabitz says Gavin's teeth look perfect, no cavities, and no concerns. He said G will get 4 more teeth in the next 6 months, and he can already feel them. Might explain G putting everything in his mouth...oh wait, he has always done that!

Next appointment in 6 months:)
