Avocado Baby

I should have known that baby A would LOVE avocado's just like his big brother! Oh my, Austin ate a half an avocado in 10 minutes...all by himself. (he sucked it right through the mesh)

Right now Austin is not eating table food for nutrition, just for fun. We pretty much just give him something we are eating and he plays with it on his tray...his favorite are things he can hold, like green beans, apples, or banana. This makes breakfast and dinner so much easier for us because he will sit in his highchair almost the entire time. Finally I don't have to inhale my food!

He is also sitting up for longer periods (somehow he gets himself in a sitting position all by himself) and up on all fours crawling backwards. I really wish he would slow down a little!!!

Those lips!

Every once in a while I see so so so much of Gavin in Austin...and this picture really looks to me like they are brothers! The nose and lips....oh my!

Super active baby!

I just cannot believe how incredibly active and strong this baby is. I do NOT remember Gavin being this active...was he?

Austin will not sit still while you hold him...he moves his body and twists every way he can to try to move...its like he wants to go take off running. My arms have never been this strong, not even when I used to work out (like 50 years ago...and some would even argue that I was not really working out;)

We have been bathing him on the baby bath net since he was weeks old...it was perfect bc he could bathe with his brother and just lay on the net...well, no more! As SOON as you lay him on it, he arches his back and flips over....and if we did not catch him he would be face down in the water. It was nearly impossible to bathe him bc as soon as you reach for the soap or washcloth, he would be over. Both hands need to stay on him to HOLD him down. Crazy.

I found a great bath seat for babies who can not yet sit up alone, and ordered it asap...bc bathing two kids was just impossible with Austin trying to swim. Thank you Walmart DOT COM!

The seat is wonderful. I am able to wash Gavin without worrying that Austin will drown right in front of me.

Baby A and cloth

I still can't believe how easy this has been, but that's probably the only reason I have stuck with doing cloth diapers so far.

I did a TON of research about this when pregnant both times...and ultimately it came down to the amount of time I would spend doing laundry...and I just did not want to be doing 4 or 5 extra loads a week...don't have the time or energy!

About 5 weeks ago we decided we would give it a try. I was not sure how it would go, so we thought it could not hurt to try. Austin has only been having a BM every few days, and doing cloth diapers with just pee-pee is so simple! Austin has had a little eczema rash on his diaper area (below his belly button, right where the wet diaper sits) and we thought it might be from the disposable diapers. So we tried cloth for a few days (minus overnight bedtime) and the rash completely goes away...in hours. So we tried Pampers, Huggies, and our original Kirkland Signature diapers, and they all cause this little eczema rash! So we continued with cloth as much as possible. What do you know? Rash gone.

A while back I bought some Fuzzibunz from a resale shop, and I have just been using the traditional cloth diapers(burp rags) as inserts. When they are wet, we throw them in a bucket of cool water (that sits on wash machine) and once a week I wash those diapers....its that easy! The Fuzzibuns stay dry mostly, but if they are damp, I hang them in the bathroom and let them dry...and then once a week or so I wash them too...of course if there is a #2, then I wash it all..but that's only happened a few times.

It really is so easy, and totally possible even though we are SUPER busy ALL the time. It takes no more time than regular diapers. Of course, there are all the health benefits of doing cloth (no chemicals on the skin) and we have a little less dent on the landfill;)

I am still sure that I would never have done this when he was so young and had 5-10 BM's a day!!! That was not worth the clean up time for me. We will see how it goes, so far so good!

There is no denying that a baby in cloth diapers is so cute too:)

Almost there!

I can't believe it...but baby A is almost crawling!!! We think its only a matter of weeks for sure!

He has started getting up on his arms and his knees...and now he is rocking back and forth...exactly what babies do right before they are on the move. He is definitely moving around and "crawling" but not on purpose yet. Only a matter of time.

We can no longer leave him anywhere but his bed or chair if we leave the room. He is across the room in under 5 minutes. He tries SO hard to get his toys too...if he see's something across the room, he will be right besides it with the toy in his mouth in no time.

Hidden Beach

Today we took a trip to Hidden Beach in Aptos. We don't come here often enough....it is such a great place to spend the day:) Now that baby is a little older, I bet we will be here more. We also decided that we want to spend Saturday's doing fun things as a family since I am now working every Sunday...its so nice to be together as a family of four:)

We left very early, at about 8am so we could get here before the sun was too hot. It was PERFECT for playing in the sand....cool and foggy for a few hours...and the boys played and played. Right when we got there Gavin said "LOOK! Its SAND HEAVEN!!!!" Then after the sun was nice and warm, we had a picnic lunch and then the boys took a nap in the shaded tent. When Austin woke up, I put him in the Ergo and we headed out for a long walk down the beach while the boys kept sleeping. It was the best walk I have had in a LONG time! We ended up being gone for almost an hour and a half.

Once G was awake from his nap, him and daddy made a sandcastle and played in the ocean. We finally packed up at about 4:30pm. We stopped at the market to get some cool drinks because it was SO hot at this time and we were all super thirsty. Gavin informed us that he needed a Hawaiian Punch "because it is a special day" :)

Summer Swimming

Today we went swimming at Ma and Papa's house:) The boys both LOVE the water so much! Baby A kicks and kicks in the water...like he is trying to swim:) Gavin loves to blow bubbles and play with all the toys. Oh and of course his favorite is to jump in to Daddy...also called "cannonballs"

When we got home Gavin got a special treat from "Debbie's Turtle" next door (Our neighbor puts a toy/treat in a little ceramic turtle on her porch almost EVERY day:) He got Doritos (first time ever) and walked around the yard in his jammies eating them.
