2 Year Check-up

Today we had our visit with Dr. Copeland!!!! I was SOOO relieved to be back at her office, and Gavin was too. He remembered it, and was excited for all the smiley faces. The receptionist, nurse, and doctor were all so glad to see Gavin again! They all told him they missed him, and were happy to see him. Gavin just soaked it all in.

Dr. Copeland was so sweet, and Gavin loves her. When you are around her you just get the feeling that she really cares and is listening to you....something we really missed while gone at Kaiser. It is also very obvious that she LOVES kids. He was actually excited for her to "check him out" and listen to his tummy and heart. I told him all the stuff she would do this morning before the appointment, and he wasted no time asking her to do the assessment! We were talking and he kept telling her "Listen Davin tummy! See ears! See nose!" I was laughing because its rare to find a child who WANTS to be assessed by the doctor and the lights, stethoscope and tongue blade!

After that we talked about his overall health, and she thinks he looks great. She said he is right on track with everything...advanced in the physical development area, and she was very pleased with how well he is talking. She said that she has no concerns for him at all. She even said she was impressed with his sentences:)

We talked about our one concern with G. The stupid paci! I told her that he still had it at night in the crib, and she said that we just need to take it away, cold turkey, and be done! She said that at 2 she has all her patients see the dentist, so he would definitely tell me to get rid of it...haha I laughed and told her that I would never admit to the dentist that he still had one!!! I know better. So Derek and I need to decide a date, and just get rid of it! But this is our only issue lately, and honestly its not really an issue at all...He only has it in his crib, and its not affecting his speech...but still, it needs to go!

Lastly, we talked about vaccines. G is all caught up with everything, except Hep A, which he will get in a few months. I gave in and agreed to give him the flu shot...we will have a newborn at the peak of flu season, and  a newborn and influenza is nothing to mess with. (Derek and I will both get ours too) G had never had a flu shot, and so I was a little hesitant, but I agree, benefit really outweighs the risk for this one! The nurse gave him his shot in his thigh, he screamed for 3 seconds until she handed him a huge basket of suckers and stickers. He immediately stopped crying, grabbed a handful of suckers, and smiled really big. Nothing a little candy could not fix!

Although we will see Dr. C when the baby is here, Gavin does not need to go back until he is THREE! Seems like so long!

Here are the stats:
Weight: 29 pounds (65th percentile)
Height: 36.75 inches (95th percentile)
Head Circ: 48.5cm (95th percentile)
BMI: 15.36 (17th percentile)

So G is long and lean! I actually did not know he was pretty tall, but I guess he has to be having tall parents...

Next appointment is a month from now to get the booster flu shot, then a month later to get Hep A shot, then not until he is three.

We are so very thankful for a healthy and happy boy. He is prefect, and we could not ask for anything more...:)
